Basic principles of search engine optimization
What is search engine optimization?
Search engine optimization involves both On-page and Off-page techniques of improving a website’s ranking for purposes of maximizing the number of visitors. SEO can also be defined as structuring the content of a website in a manner that will help search engines such as Google and Bing to crawl and produce optimized results based on a search query.
On-page search engine optimization refers to the activities that a site administrator is responsible for such as keyword density, header tags, originality and relevance while Off-page SEO involves those activities that are beyond a site’s administrator such as trust score, linking and social media sharing.

Search engine optimization ranking factors
There are two significant factors that are responsible for ranking a site high on search engine. These factors include Domain Authority and Page Authority.
Domain Authority (DA) is a measure that was developed by Moz which predicts how powerful a website will rank on search engine results page often denoted as (SERP). Domain Authority is based on several factors such as Age, Popularity, Size, linking root domain among others. Domain Authority is measured out of a hundred. If a website’s (DA) is low then the site is not considered as an authority site. On the other hand, a site that has a (DA) of above 40 is considered as an authority site. Sites like Wikipedia, Facebook and Twitter have a Domain Authority of 100 which implies it’s an authoritative site. You can check your Domain Authority or your competition here by simply entering their URL and click search. To increase your Domain Authority, you need to manually create backlinks to your site although this is not the way to do it since you might end up getting penalized by Google. Alternatively, you can purchase an expired domain that has already aged and has a higher (DA) which will save you time and money from Freshdrop. Domain Authority to some extent is beyond the responsibility of a site’s administrator. Although, you can always hire a SEO expert to do this for you the right way. If you try to rank high with black hat SEO and you are inexperienced you might end up harming your site and render it useless.

Page Authority (PA) is a measure that was developed by Moz and it plays a significant role on how well a single page on a site will rank high in SERP. This measure is also measured out of a 100 and the higher the page authority, the higher the site will rank. Page Authority is easier to increase as compared to (DA) because you as a site admin is responsible for your On-page SEO. To increase your Page Authority, one simply has to improve internal linking by interlinking content within a site. For instance, if you are curating content about SEO and you have another content related to your new post, you can link the new content with the old one or vice versa. Besides, you need to optimize your site based on keywords as well as linking to other credible information on another site just like I linked where to check your Domain and Page Authority. By implementing these simple procedures you will increase your Page Authority and your site will rank high on SERP.
